The Sari Story

A sari is a woven length of cloth, usually from four to six metres in length, that is draped over a woman's body, accentuating her curves and demurely showing her beauty.

The sari comes in a vast array of colour combinations and stunning bright pigments of colour. Saris are woven with one plain end usually hidden at the beginning of the wrap, with two long decorative borders running the length of the sari, on top and bottom, and a three foot section at the end called the pallu. The pallu usually has an intense design of colour and texture as it is the piece that showcases the sari as a whole.

You can find saris in a variety of silks; georgette, art silk, chiffon, duponi, crepe and taffeta, in blended fabrics and in cotton. Saris have a unique design highlighted by embroidery, dyes, tie-dyeing, block printing. Accents sparkle using sequins, interwoven gold and silver threading, known as Zari work, and Zardozi work which integrates sparkles, stones and jewels.
