India is in my blood, literally!

My mother is from Gujarat, India. My father is Dutch, residing in Amsterdam. Of course they met in multicultural Canada. I was born in Toronto and raised by my Indian grandparents. Our home never lacked of spicy food, beautiful music, colourful saris and lots of family.

I crushed on the stars of Bollywood before anyone in Hollywood. My tape collection was made up of Bollywood soundtracks from my favorite films. Being the eldest of all the kids in my family I was dressed in little colourful skirts and tops to wear to school. Not very practical and certainly not popular at the time!

The sari mesmerized me with its brilliant colours. My fondest memory is returning from school, lying in my grandmother's lap, enveloped by the softness of her sari, and the scent of spices. I was comforted and safe as I talked of my day, my fears and joys.

My home is filled with these dazzling silk creations. These trinkets of spice are on my sofa, chairs and tables.

Each piece is a unique handmade piece of art.
